Amidst the surging wave of travelers in search of exclusive and authentic journeys, coupled with a desire for connection with kindred spirits, a new kind of private island resort announced its opening on the French Riviera.
The six-hectare Île de Bendor stands apart as one of the largest private island resorts in the EU, and one of very few available in the Mediterranean. The project is intended as an escape and a social hub, with its concept rooted in old-world glamour, ideal for wealthy individuals seeking solace in European waters.
The island of Bendor, sitting 300m off the coast from the Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur, was bought and developed by prominent businessman Paul Ricard in the 1950s. The Ricard family recently selected the Zannier Hotel group to spearhead the island’s redesign endeavor.
According to founder Arnaud Zannier, “this pioneering project, which highlights the magical island of Bendor, is set to become the Zannier Hotels European flagship” and will be “rooted in artisan-led design, gastronomic heritage, sustainable development, and one-of-a-kind experiences”.

We’ve recently highlighted visionary, social club-based projects in luxury real estate and wellness, and it is even more interesting to see how the concept has been developing in the hospitality segment.
Île de Bendor: A Social Hub Rooted in Old-World Glamour
Spanning a larger landmass than most Mediterranean private island resorts, the Île de Bendor is ideally positioned to craft the spaces and amenities for a thriving community. In the name of old-world glamour, the Zannier group aims to build not just a resort but a social hub. And the 93-keys boutique hotel will ensure this exclusive enclave will facilitate a close circle where luxury, sophistication, and camaraderie intertwine harmoniously.
With a Provençal-style village and convivial gathering space, the Île de Bendor is set to become a destination in itself.
The resort will epitomize the French golden days whilst playing host to modern amenities like immersive dining at the multi-sensory lifestyle and restaurant concept, Nonna Bazaar, a curated artisan village, wellness offerings, a high-end spa.

As a boutique hotel with 93 keys, this exceptional resort will join the ranks of luxury hotels flanking Zannier Hotels. With a projected launch in 2026, this luxurious venture balances opulence and sustainability, and is the second opening in the homeland of the Zannier brand’s father, Arnaud Zannier.
“We chose Zannier Hotels because they perfectly understood the soul of Île de Bendor, and because our family totally shares their approach to luxury, valuing authenticity, simplicity and emotion”, said Marc de Jouffroy, Board Member of Société Paul Ricard. “Together, we will restore Île de Bendor to its former glory and make it one of the most iconic destinations in the Mediterranean”.

Transforming Luxury Travel
There are very few resorts where a traveler can enjoy not only seclusion but a holistic social experience in Europe. The brief list includes the legendary islands of San Clemente Palace Kempinski in Venice, the Isle of Eriska in Scotland, and the Island Lodge in Sweden.
Just like the upcoming Île de Bendor, each stands apart in their atmosphere, experiences and location.
Yet, with the heady promise of community and luxury in the exceptional French Riviera, the island of Bendor promises to transform the concept of a private island resort vacation. Being “the destination of itself”, Île de Bendor strategically capitalizes on its laid-back, sustainable, and social hub attributes, achieving strong appeal without compromising on ostentatious luxury.
